WordCamp Savannah, 2010

I was lucky enough to spend last weekend in Savannah, Georgia for their first WordCamp. This was the first time I’d ever been to beautiful, historic Savannah. The humidity/heat was a bit much for me, but in general I had a great time. I gave a short presentation on the new comment_form() function which is available for themes to use since 3.0. I’ve embedded my slides below, along with a link to download a PDF version.

Twitter API/Developer Meetup Notes

Here are some notes I took during the Twitter developer meetup that was tonight, at Twitter Headquarters. They’re probably not complete, because I only took bits and pieces on my iPhone, then filled out some details when I got home. It does sound like Twitter are really trying to bulk up their efforts to support developers and let their community flourish, which is probably a great approach given their “we are a platform” strategy. Taken/formatted via ListML, thus the very-hierarchical list approach. Enjoy.

WordCamp Indonesia, 2010

WordCampID – January 30, 2010WordCamp Indonesia. The event was very well organized, with a core team (the same group from last year) involved in putting together all the logistics, handling media, organizing speakers etc. They handled things very well, despite a few problems which were out of their control (like bad name-tag printing and their stickers/WordPress buttons not making it in the mail!) and the day seemed to be a success for everyone.

Below are the slides and notes from my presentation, which covered the current state of WordPress, what’s coming up in the next release and some of the related projects. You can also get the slides on SlideShare. Click the link below the slides to expand my full outline/notes.

I’m Speaking at WordCamp Indonesia

WordCampID – January 30, 2010While I’m here in Santiago, one of the things I’ll be doing is putting together a presentation for WordCamp Indonesia. I’ll be keynoting, although I’m not 100% sure what I’ll be covering yet; it’s sure to be something interesting ;)

If you’re anywhere near Indonesia, book your tickets around January 30, 2010 and come and chat about WordPress with a bunch of like-minded folks! Michael Koenig (a fellow Automattician) will be joining me, and spreading the love about IntenseDebate (which is a major sponsor of WordCamp ID).

GSoC Mentor Summit, 2009

This weekend I attended the Mentor Summit that winds up the Google Summer of Code. It’s an event where up to 2 mentors from each organization involved are invited to hang out at the GooglePlex for a weekend, mingle with folks from other open source projects and see what happens. We discussed all sorts of things related to the Summer of Code program, in addition to a variety of other, generally open-source topics. It was operated as an unconference, so we made up the majority of the schedule as we went, and modified it as required.

WordCamp New York

WordCampNYC – Nov 14-15I’m not 100% sure on the topic(s) I’ll be presenting yet, but I’m confirmed to attend and speak at WordCamp New York City in November. This is going to be a big one; they are expecting a lot of attendees and will have a variety of tracks and sessions going on so that there really is something for everyone.

I’ll keep you posted on what I’ll be talking about and when I’ll be on, but I’ll be there all weekend, so if you see me, grab me and say Hi!

Meet The Family, Take Two

This weekend, I’m in Makati City, Manila for WordCamp Philippines. It’s the first time I’ve been over here and it’s been quite a trip (I wish I was staying for a lot longer!).

I’m planning on posting a more detailed entry covering my trip here, but in the meantime I wanted to get my slides up here so that I could point people to them immediately. It’s embedded below so please check it out, it’s an extended version of the presentation from last weekend at WordCamp LA.
